Overview

The Allen County Solid Waste Management District is seeking creative minds to help spread the word about recycling in our community.  To do this, the District is sponsoring a video contest for Allen County student’s grades 6th through 12th.  The purpose of the contest is to educate and inspire the general public to actively recycle by changing simple behaviors and taking advantage of local recycling opportunities.  Two winners will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by the Allen County Solid Waste Management District.  Spread the word by posting this flyer.

Getting Started - Basic Information

Step 1: Get the Details

  • Videos must be exactly :30 seconds long and suitable for TV airing.  Submissions that do not fall within this time frame will not be judged.
  • Videos will be evaluated by a panel of judges on the basis of: creativity and originality, quality and technical accuracy, content of message.
  • Make sure to keep it clean. No violence, profanity, sex, or direct attacks on individuals or organizations.
  • Video must not infringe on any third party rights.
  • By submitting a video to this contest, you grant the ACSWMD royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform and otherwise use and authorize others to use your video for any educational purpose and in any media.
Step 2: Make your Video Your video should meet the following requirements:

  • Your video must be submitted as a QuickTime/MOV, WMV, MPEG, AVI, and must be uploaded and posted to www.youtube.com/acswmd1.
  • The video file should not exceed 50 MB.
  • Your video must be exactly 30 seconds. 
  • You must have a video photograph release form signed by each person appearing in the video, and his/her guardian if they are a minor.
  • If your video wins, The District will need to have copies of the signed releases.  The District will provide the winner with a sample release form.
  • The end of the video must display the District’s website www.acwastewatcher.org and phone number 449-7878 for a minimum of three seconds.
  • The two winners must provide copies of the original video files to the District in order to receive prizes.
  • Videos can be funny or serious, as long as they focus on recycling and show steps that can be taken to improve recycling in our community.
Step 3: Post your video to YouTube or send by mail by February 15, 2010

  • Log in to You Tube.  If you don’t have an account already, it is easy and only takes a few minutes to set one up.
  • Submit your video by uploading it on to our group page www.youtube.com/acswmd1   
  • Post your video by February 15, 2010.
  • Once you've submitted your video for the contest, you will not see your video right away.  This is either because it is still processing or is yet to be approved by the group moderator. Please wait at least 3 days for your video to appear before resubmitting.
  • If you prefer not to have your entry displayed on YouTube, you may submit it by sending it on a CD-Rom or DVD via mail to the following address:  Allen County Solid Waste Management District, Attn: Video Contest, One Main St Rm B86, Fort Wayne IN 46802.
  • If you have any question please contact Kira Blacketor at 449-7878. NOTE:  Videos must be postmarked by February 15, 2010.  Allen County Solid Waste District will not be responsible for videos if they are lost or destroyed.
Step 4: Make it Official – Complete the Entry Form

  • A contest entry form must be complete by all contestants.  Videos without an entry form will not be included in the judging process.  Please sign and fax the entry form to 449-7716 or  if you do not have access to a fax machine you may sign and mail the entry form to:  Allen County Solid Waste Management District, Attn: Video Contest, One Main St. Rm. B86, Fort Wayne IN 46802.
Contest Rules
  • You must be an Allen County resident to enter and win the contest. 
  • You must complete the contest entry form and provide valid contact information.
  • The contest entry form must be SIGNED and faxed to 449-7716.  If you do not have access to a fax machine you may sign and mail the entry form to:  Allen County Solid Waste Management District, Attn: Video Contest, One Main St. Rm. B86, Fort Wayne IN 46802.
  • Entries will be judged by a panel on the basis of creativity and originality, quality, technical accuracy, and content of the message. Allen County Solid Waste Management District reserves the right to not select a winner if none of the entries received are judged to be high quality based on the above criteria.
  • The video must be your own original creation. No copyrighted music, video, or images may be used in the video.
  • Your video must not infringe on any third party rights.
  • The winners must provide a copy of the original video file to Allen County Solid Waste Management District to receive the prizes.
  • By submitting a video to this contest, you grant to Allen County Solid Waste Management District a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any educational purpose throughout the world and in any media.
  • Allen County Solid Waste Management District reserves the right to make your video available to the general public from its Web site and to distribute it to groups and any other organizations interested in showing it for educational purposes, including, but not limited to, on Internet sites, at conferences and events, on television, and other media outlets.
  • Allen County Solid Waste Management District will disqualify any entries it deems to contain offensive material.
  • You must have a contest entry form filled out and signed by each person appearing in the video, and his/her guardian if s/he is a minor. If your video is chosen, Allen County Solid Waste District will need to have copies of these releases. This is the release form that will be used for the winning entries.
  • Entries must be received or postmarked by February 15, 2010.  The winner will be notified by phone and/or e-mail as provided on the entry form by March 1, 2010.
  • Entrants must agree to these terms and conditions, or the agreement of a legal guardian must be obtained if the entrant is a minor.
Privacy Policy
  • Personal information collected from video submitters will never be sold. The information collected for this contest will only be used to contact video submitters in direct relation to the contest.
  • The contest winners’ names will be announced publicly, after consultation with the winners, as a part of the video contest award recognition process.
  • All personal information collected through the Contest Web site will be destroyed within 6 months of the conclusion of the video contest. Any videos posted to YouTube will be subject to YouTube's privacy policy.
